Mud Australia

mud australia was founded in 1994. The handmade porcelain range, designed by Shelley Simpson, combines craft, colour, clean lines, palette and functionality. The end result is a product that neatly intersects a minimalist aesthetic with an artisan finish. Our porcelain happily fits in any interior, providing a timeless alternative to mass produced ceramic design.

As a small business we strongly believe in the global values of craft and community. We actively build relationships with the people who buy, use and love our product.

Our retail stores present all products exclusively on the Vitsœ 606 Universal Shelving System, the iconic furniture range designed by Dieter Rams.

How we do it

All mud australia porcelain is handmade in our Sydney factory by our staff of professional and in-house ceramicists. Each piece is designed to last and manufactured using the best materials available.

Made from Limoges porcelain, sourced directly from France, the pigment is tinted through the porcelain body to provide colour-depth. Clear glaze is then hand brushed to the interior of each piece leaving the exterior with a vitrified stone-like surface that becomes smooth with handling. 

The range evolves seasonally with the addition of new shapes and colours. We have recently extended the range to include cookware and a tea service. Two new colours have also been added: Mist and Blue.

Care

Your porcelain can, with some care, be safely used in oven, microwave and dishwashers. When stacking in dishwasher be careful to avoid over-stacking.

Sudden changes in temperature (eg.from freezer to oven ~ from oven to cold bench) is likely to cause thermal shock, which will damage your porcelain. Always place very hot items onto either wood or cloth.

To avoid glaze scratches ideally your mud porcelain will be stored in plate racks or with linen/felt between each item.
