An accomplished jeweler and metalsmith, John Blair’s artwork is influenced by ancient and modern ornamentation. He combines precious metals with unique hand chosen gemstones to create timeless jewelry and art objects. Since completing a 4-year metal arts program at Alberta College of Art and Design (ACAD) in 1976, Blair has engaged in freelance work, exhibition and consignment sales in contemporary art/craft galleries. The artist’s work can be found in collections worldwide. John Blair received the Alberta College of Art and Design Alumni Award of Excellence in 2002, and the Alberta Craft Council Award of Excellence,2012. For Alberta’s 2005 centennial celebrations he was commissioned by the province to make the ceremonial knife used by Queen Elizabeth II to cut the centennial cake.
