Norman Russ was born into the Eagle clan on the Queen Charlotte Islands.  He began carving in argillite at a very young age, studying under his cousins and uncles within the very well  known and respected Russ family of argillite carvers.  Working only in argillite, he produces works steeped in the traditional designs and symbols of his people.
